Our Mission
The Faith and Hope Society was formed for exclusively charitable and educational purposes. The Faith and Hope Society specifically aims both to educate the public and raise general awareness about Huntington's Disease. We strive to achieve this goal though the facilitation of charitable events to support our present and future activities and the activities of geographically distant non-profits that share our vision. We are also funded by way of contributions from the public, including, but not limited to individuals, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and corporations.
Our Mission Statement
“The Faith and Hope Society is dedicated to enriching lives that have been touched by Huntington's Disease. We aim to strengthen the Huntington's community through fund raising, spreading awareness, and individualized assistance to victims and their families”
Our Featured Story
Our Untold Tale
As you can see from the photo below, Huntington's Disease has unmercifully ravaged my family for many generations. All the people were never able to fulfill so many things they has always dreamed they would. My Great Grandma Antoinette Smichek was sitting with her grandchildren. I am sure there were many things she wanted to do with them and could not. My "real" mother and the Mother that raised me, Brenda, are sitting with her below. We way we "get used" to living in a family with HD because it is all that we have known. But do we really? How does it affect us to be so small and see the ones we love go through this? How are our relationships shaped for the better or worse? How are our hearts stretched to meet what we face? Hopefully, if we are as great as we are called to be, we get to be less selfish and self centered. I personally was an afraid and selfish jerk until I grew up! What does it all look like through our eyes? Who are the "we" that we speak of? I think it is time for the world to see the vivid answers.
We are calling you forth to tell your families story with us. We will be holding a photo shoot here in Atlanta! You can also do it through email. We hope to have a coffee table book published by the end of the year. We cannot do it without you! We are taking stories now! We will send you a media release form via email. This has to be signed and returned for your story to be published. Photoshoots will be available in November, 2009 and January/Febuary, 2010. We may also be able to come to you given the right curcumstances. Please call or email us for more information. We are going to do our best to depict your story in a truly beautiful way. A message from our treasurer and photographer: "My name is Joseph Gloyd. I am the Treasurer for the Faith and Hope Society run by Kimberly Gibson. I also do the photography for the FHS events. I have known and been friends with Kimberly for over 12 years. I have watched her daughters grow up to be the wonderful girls that they are.
I have been doing Photography for the past 15 years or so and with the advent of digital photography I have become passionate about taking great pictures. I have taken advanced photography classes at The Showcase School of Photography and The Nikon School. When Kimberly asked me to be part of this project I said yes without hesitation. HD really needs a passionate voice and Kimberly has been working incredibly hard to bring awareness about the disease. No progress will be made if everyone sits back waiting for others to handle things. Kimberly is trying her best to bring awareness of HD to the general population and I am happy to help."
